AMAZON RAIN FOREST SCHOOL PROJECT

INTERACT WITH K-12 CLASSES FROM AROUND THE WORLD!

Travel with our adventure team, from the comfort of your classroom, to the Amazon Rain Forest - and interact with students who live there.

This school year, watch your curriculum come alive as your students travel with our adventure team, from the comfort of your own classroom, to the Amazon Rain Forest! Our team of educators will send you regular electronic content and your students will interact with K-12 students who live in the Amazon. Along the way, you will seamlessly integrate technology, art, music and global education into your curriculum. Open to all K-12 classes/schools.

“Thanks for opening a whole new world  - and bringing the sights and sounds of the Amazon Rain Forest -  to my students!”  Third grade teacher, Jefferson Elementary School, Yorktown Heights, NY

PROGRAM TIMETABLE

The Amazon Rain Forest School (ARFS) Project will take place between January 18th and March 12th, 2010. Teachers who are not completing their Amazon study during the program dates may save program content for future use.

ONEWORLD CLASSROOMS' TRAVELING TEAM OF EDUCATORS

The program coincides with OWC staff and volunteers traveling to visit Amazon Rain Forest schools in February, 2010. The traveling team of educators includes: OWC Director, resident poet and educator, Paul Hurteau (who lived and taught in the Ecuadorian Amazon for one year and has since traveled to the region to visit school seven times); teaching artist and muralist Susan Shanley; Maryland Institute College of Art Cinematography professor and filmmaker Allen Moore; and 9 other teachers, volunteers and students. Susan will lead volunteers in an Ecuadorian animal mural project at a school in Baños, Ecuador, on the edge of the Andes Mountains and the Amazon Rain Forest; and Paul will lead volunteers on trips to nearby Amazon schools around Puyo, Ecuador. Nearby Peace Corps and WorldTeach volunteers stationed at Amazon communities will coordinate with Paul to involve their schools.
