OneWorld Classrooms

Terms of Use

OneWorld Classrooms is committed to protecting the privacy of teachers and students who use its Web site and programs and services. OneWorld Classrooms also requires that teachers and students using its Web site and programs and services follow basic guidelines for appropriate inter-school communication and educational use of shared and copyrighted materials. By using OneWorld Classrooms’ Web site and programs and services, registrants agree to the following terms of use and acknowledge the privacy policy and usage guidelines explained in this document.

OneWorld Classrooms (OWC) offers password-protected educational online content for the use of K-12 teachers and students. Teachers, school administrators, after school program coordinators, teacher trainers, prospective teachers and parents may register to access content for classroom and home study use and on behalf of their students/children. (We do not accept registrations submitted by K-12 students.) All registrants select or are assigned a username and password to access the password-protected content. For security purposes, OWC requests that registrants not share their usernames and passwords with classes, schools or individuals that are not registered. Registrants may modify their contact information and/or username/password at any point by logging in to a password-protected region.

All registrants automatically receive our E-newsletter, The Connected Teacher, and related bulletins. Registrants may select which bulletins they would like to receive or opt not to receive bulletins when registering to receive the E-newsletter. When registering, registrants select whether they would like to receive OWC E-mails at their Contact E-mail Address only or at their Contact and Backup E-mail Addresses.

If the E-mail addresses OWC has on file for a registrant become inactive (i.e. our E-newsletter is returned to sender), we will use the backup Email address if there is one. If there is no backup address or if the backup address becomes inactive, we will remove the addresses from our mailing list and deactivate the registrant’s access to any password-protected online content.

Registrants may modify their contact information (including E-mail addresses) and change their bulletin preferences at any point by selecting the appropriate link on any E-newsletter or bulletin.

Tip: To avoid losing access to the password-protected online content, registrants should make sure their school’s spam filter does not block OWC E-mails (from and Constant Contact Emails (from

OWC does not share E-mail addresses or contact information with third parties and we only use E-mail addresses and contact information to communicate with registrants about our programs and services and related educational resources.

At any point, registrants may request to have their E-mail addresses removed from our mailing list (they will also lose access to any password-protected online content). We honor all remove requests. Registrants may also modify their E-mail bulletin preferences or contact information at any point by sending an E-mail to — or by selecting the appropriate link on any E-newsletter or bulletin.

Through OWC’s K-12 Global Art Exchange, OWC staff facilitates the sharing of original student-created artwork submitted to OWC via regular mail by participating classes from around the world.  In almost all cases, all of the artwork submitted is mailed to other participating schools for their permanent use/display. No art will be returned. OWC scans and displays some student artwork on its website or other organizational materials (including Google Earth tours and PowerPoints), or may occasionally retain one or more pieces from a given set of submitted artwork for OWC displays (like Boston 140) in schools and community arts centers in Massachusetts. In some cases, OWC displays sets of art but then rotates them back into the exchange. Teachers may request that their student artwork and any accompanying photos not be displayed on the website, in organizational materials or at OWC displays or events by sending an email to

See Privacy Policy, Definition of Appropriate Content, Acceptable Use Guidelines and Copyright and Ownership below for related information.

For classes contributing content for posting on the OWC Web site, we require that teachers only (not students) submit content to OWC and/or to Partner Teachers at partner schools. We require that all teacher-submitted student-created content be appropriate for K-12 classroom use and culturally sensitive. It is the responsibility of participating teachers to screen all student-created content for appropriateness. OWC reserves the right to review, edit, refuse to post, or remove any information or materials, in whole or in part, from the OWC Web site, at OWC’s sole discretion. Participating teachers agree not to submit, and OWC may screen out, content that is deemed to: be false, inaccurate, or misleading; fraudulent; infringe on an existing copyright, patent, trademark or other proprietary rights; be in violation of any law; be defamatory or unlawfully threatening, harassing, obscene or offensive; contain any viruses, Trojan horses, worms, time bombs, cancelbots, or other computer-programming routines that are intended to damage, detrimentally interfere with, surreptitiously intercept, or expropriate any system, data, or personal information.

We require that all communication between students be monitored by teachers for appropriateness.

OWC reserves the right to terminate a registrant’s access to any or all of the services at any time.

All content developed by OWC staff and located on the OWC Web site is copyrighted. It may be copied for classroom use only. OWC Web site content may not be used for electronic or print publications in any form (including use on a Web site other than OWC’s) without express written consent from OneWorld Classrooms, except for one-time publications that are strictly to be used for classrooms use and will not be sold commercially.

Any artwork and electronic materials submitted to OWC become the property of OneWorld Classrooms and can not be returned. (Teachers should retain their own copies.) All rights are assigned to OneWorld Classrooms for the use, publication, distribution or reproduction of any submission through any electronic or print medium for cross-cultural sharing purposes and in the best interests of OWC’s ongoing nonprofit programs and services. For example, OWC may modify and post submitted content on the OWC Web site, display submitted content in OWC art exhibitions, etc.

As a nonprofit organization, OneWorld Classrooms is prohibited from using submitted content for commercial profit-generating purposes. However, OWC may use these materials for fundraising purposes where appropriate.

OWC collects personally identifiable information, such as your name, email address, school phone number and school address, upon registration, as they pertain to OWC programs and services.

OWC uses the information to contact registrants and to respond to registrant correspondence. OWC shares contact information only with Partner Teachers at partner schools for the purposes of communication between partners for completing program exchanges. Otherwise, we do not share personal information with third parties.

While OWC does not currently use cookies, it retains the rights to do so. (This information will be updated immediately given any change.)

OWC advises teachers interacting with partner schools electronically not to share the full names of their students. OWC only uses first names of students when crediting students for artwork and other student-created content that is posted on the OWC Web site. OWC uses photos of students only in cases where permission for use has been granted. Teachers submitting content, including photos of students, are simultaneously giving permission for OWC to use the content on the OWC Web site and acknowledging that participating classes from around the world will also be able to access the content and use it in their classrooms. In addition to posting content on the Web site, OWC may, in some cases, share content with specific partner classes/schools participating in OWC for educational use in the classroom. Otherwise, OWC does not share content and student information with third parties.

By using the OWC Web site and programs and services, registrants signify their consent to OWC’s current Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. If registrants do not consent, they should not use the OWC Web site and/or programs and services. The OWC Terms of Use and Privacy Policy may from time to time be updated without notice to registrants and changes will be effective when posted.
